Coming Soon - March 2017
On June 16th 2018, in collaboration with Grand Tour Studio, the designer Bárbara Sánchez Kane will present a live installation that functions as a dramatic preview of the themes of Sánchez Kane’s next SS-19 collection; a personal investigation for the designer, who as she enters her thirties, frankly confronts social questions of motherhood, femininity, beauty, in a complete re-analysis of her recurrent “Macho Sentimental” theme. Who and what does this idea represent?
In addition to the live installation, Grand Tour will present a selection of pieces for sale from Sánchez Kane’s most recent capsule collection, Pre FW-18.
The name of creative mind behind SÁNCHEZ-KANE is Bárbara, graduated from Polimoda and with previous studies in industrial design. She presented her graduation collection “Catch as Catch” in 2015 at Pitti Uomo 86 and was quickly named by VOGUE Italia as one of the emerging talents to follow. Several further achievements followed: Winner of TFORTHREE and VFILES RUNWAY 7 finalist.
“My biggest achievement is having already presented three times at NYFW, being part of a union of Latinos that like me with the brand, seeks to transmit Mexican culture in a more conceptual and modern way” – Bárbara S.K
In a Mexico with a lot of machismo, Bárbara portrays a new version of man and calls him “Macho Sentimental”, which is the classic male but who is in contact with his feminine side and is allowed to express his feelings, but which could also be a woman, who, like the designer, has a duality between masculine and feminine. This idea gave life to her collection “Men Without Fear Miniserie” which shared the pages of publications with designers from NYFW such as Raf Simons.
Motivated by her Mexican heritage and the disturbing and amusing chaos influenced by intrinsic and political elements that can be found in her personal diary, in 2017 Bárbara presented her first solo performance “Vast Graveyard of The Missing” on invitation of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
“I enjoy more doing installations than the collection itself, I think that in this way I can share my world with people and invite them to be part of it, after all, an installation is the central idea from where all my collections start.” – Bárbara SK
Last February her most recent collection “ARTESANAL SEX SHOP” was presented at NYFW, where the sexual repression that surrounds Mexican society was the central theme of the collection and the attendees were allowed to be part of an atmosphere that enveloped them in a sexual metaphor.
